
A Conversation with Area Agency on Aging (AAA): Resources and Offerings for Caregivers
The question is…What does Area Agency on Aging (AAA) NOT do? This non-profit agency partners with mutiple community organizations – including Duet – to administer, coordinate, develop, and fund programs and services for seniors, and family caregivers. Director of Care Coordination, Scott Hawthornthwaite, will cover the range of offerings, including:
- Respite care reimbursement
- Referrals for free and low cost legal and tax preparation services
- A new website featuring videos to train family members tending to a loved one at home

Area Agency on Aging, Region One, is a licensed behavioral health provider through the Arizona Department of Health Services, and is certified to bill both Medicare and AHCCCS for mental health services. All Information and Referral Specialists with the Area Agency’s 24-hour Senior HELP LINE are certified by the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems.
Director of Care Coordination, Scott Hawthornthwaite, has been in the field of aging and case management for over 35 years. Sixteen of those years, he’s been with AAA.
