Help a Homebound Adult “Neighbor”

Volunteer one-on-one.

Caring for your neighbor

Turning in your car keys doesn’t mean you can no longer live in your own home. There are isolated homebound adults who can no longer drive, but want to remain independent. You can make a difference in the life of a homebound adult, and discover benefits for yourself. Enrich your mind, reduce stress, and develop interpersonal skills like the art of conversation and engagement with one simple action.  Duet offers volunteer opportunities that fit with your schedule with neighbors in close proximity to you. You decide when, where, and how often you’d like to serve. Choose from the following services:

Grocery shopping

Shopping “for” or “with” someone once per week.

Paperwork assistance

Sort mail, bill paying, insurance forms, etc. once per week/month, specifically designed to accommodate individuals who are visually impaired and/or affected by severe arthritis.

Minor handyperson services

Minor home repairs, completed in one or two visits.

Rides to doctor’s appointments

Escort someone to medical appointment, once per week.

Friendly visiting and friendly phoning

One visit per week for about 1 hour. Or two to three phone calls per week, ten minute conversations.

Technology assistance

Assist homebound seniors with use of technology. Smart phones, computers etc.

It’s so easy to find someone you can help!

Our interactive Services Map shows our waiting list of homebound adults who need caring volunteers – just like you. Each symbol represents an actual person who is currently waiting to get groceries, friendly visiting, or assistance with paperwork, or computer training.

Normally our highest demand for volunteer services is to provide grocery shopping assistance and transportation to medical appointments. (Note: transportation to medical appointments is not represented on the interactive map)

Once you become a registered volunteer with us, you will be matched with a neighbor in need.

After six months of active volunteering, Duet will refund you the cost of the card at your request. If you already have a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance, simply provide a copy for our records. If you are under 18, you may volunteer under the supervision of an adult with a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance.
