GRANDPARENTS

What happens when grandparents become parents again?

Across Arizona, more than 62,000 grandparents* have stepped into the role of raising their grandchildren. For many, this is a challenging but courageous choice, one that is often overlooked and underappreciated. These grandparents are navigating complex issues, from school and healthcare needs to emotional support, all while managing their own lives.

We are grateful to the Fostering Voices Podcast for shining a light on this important topic.

This episode features Oralia, a grandmother courageously navigating the day-to-day challenges of raising her grandkids, and Lisa McCormick, Duet’s Kinship Care Services Manager. Together, they share an open and honest conversation about foster care, adversity, and the meaningful difference we can all make when we support families in need.

This conversation highlights not only the struggles grandparents face but also the strength, resilience, and love that drive them to step up. It’s a reminder that support—whether through community resources, programs, or simply listening—can make a real difference in the lives of families.
