Create Your Next Chapter

The Next Chapter in My Life workshop series is designed for family caregivers who are ready to explore what comes next after you are no longer immersed in daily caregiving duties. Tailored for individuals over 50, this five-week virtual workshop offers you the chance to reflect, connect with others, and chart a future that aligns with your values and goals.

The program was created by Robert Waldinger, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, and author of The Good Life. Duet is the only organization offering this program to family caregivers.

The program consists of five sessions:

Apply adult development research to learn how your current lifespan stage shapes your perspectives and priorities. Discuss opportunities for the next chapter of your life.

Explore your values and life purpose, and how to intentionally align your activities with your most cherished values.

Explore the power of life-affirming relationships and how they contribute to your well-being. Develop strategies to nurture these key relationships.

Reflect on how major life transitions significantly impact areas of your life. Strategize ways to successfully prepare for the uncertainties of future transitions.

Learn how specific tactics and skills can help you cope with challenges. Draw lessons from past challenges to develop adaptive strategies to deal with life’s ‘unexpected turns.’

Participants will explore personal growth and fulfillment while connecting with others in similar situations. These shared experiences provide both encouragement and a collective source of wisdom.

This program builds on concepts from Duet’s Finding Meaning and Hope series, particularly Chapter 7: Guidelines for the Journey.

If this resonates with you, we invite you to sign up and take the next step toward creating a fulfilling “next chapter.”

“The good life is not always just out of reach after all. It is not waiting in the distant future after a dreamy career success. It’s not set to kick in after you acquire some massive amount of money. The good life is right in front of you, sometimes only an arm’s length away. And it starts now.”

― Robert Waldinger, The Good Life: Lessons from the World’s Longest Study on Happiness
