You are invited to join us for Duet’s
2024 Giving in the Garden Party!
This very special event hosted at the iconic Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale will bring us together to fulfill our commitment to deliver compassion, dignity, and hope to those who need us in our community.
Special Honoree Dr. Pauline Boss, Ph.D.
An emeritus professor at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Boss is renowned for her pioneering research on stress reduction for those experiencing the ambiguous loss of a loved one. Our seven-year collaboration with Dr. Boss led to the creation of Finding Meaning and Hope, Duet’s signature discussion series for family caregivers, based on her book Loving Someone Who Has Dementia. Her support was also crucial in launching Duet’s Meaning & Hope Institute, a virtual community offering essential help and hope to isolated family caregivers nationwide. She is excited to come to Phoenix to attend the event and accept the award.
Hosted by ABC15 Arizona’s Kaley O’Kelley
A seven-time Emmy-Award winning journalist and a self-professed weather fanatic, Kaley O’Kelley is passionate about storytelling. She is also fascinated with the challenge of television news relevance, connecting with people and the ever-evolving world of “new media.”
O’Kelley graduated from Pepperdine University, but her broadcasting career started while she was in high school. At 17 years old, she was tapped to host a Los Angeles-based television talk show. That experience eventually lead O’Kelley to KYMA in Yuma to co-anchor the morning news and forecast the weather. It’s also where she won an Associated Press award for investigative journalism.
O’Kelley went on to work at KEYT (ABC) Santa Barbara, XETV (FOX) San Diego, and Phoenix to co-host Sonoran Living Live and forecast the weather for ABC15 Arizona. O’Kelley later joined 3TV in Phoenix where she was voted Best News Personality in 2013 and 2014. O’Kelley co-hosted “The Emmitt Zone” with Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith. She also worked regularly on The Weather Channel and Good Morning America Weekend, where she filled in forecasting weather for nearly five years.
In 2015, O’Kelley was offered an opportunity to anchor the evening news at CBS in Dallas/Fort Worth. While she was in Texas, she was invited to Los Angeles to guest co-host The Talk on CBS. After three and a half busy years, a few health scares and starting a business in emerging web-streaming technologies, O’Kelley made the move back to Arizona!
In August 2018, Kaley returned to ABC15 Arizona to co-anchor the morning news. More time with her children and her parents, while working for a company investing in the future, O’Kelley says, “Finding my way back home to Arizona is a dream come true!”
O’Kelley is originally from East Wenatchee, Washington. She is a proud member of the Native American Journalists Association, The American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association. On weekends, you’ll find her riding bikes and exploring places with her family. She also enjoys cooking with her mom on Sundays, going to concerts, and in the fall, rooting for the Arizona Diamondbacks and our Arizona Cardinals (hopefully all the way through the postseason!)
Musical Guest Kurtis Adair
We are excited to welcome Phoenix based singer songwriter Kurtis Adair to this year’s Giving in the Garden Party. The core of Kurt’s sound combines intimate vocals and ethereal guitar style with a pop heart and we can’t wait to hear him out on the lawn at Mountain Shadows.
Kurtis has released a string of singles leading to his debut EP which blends his favorite songwriter influences (Jeff Buckley, Gregory Alan Isakov, the Cure, Fleetwood Mac, Leon Bridges, Adele) with a touch of country and rock and roll from his years of playing Telecaster and drums in bars and clubs across the desert.
Find him on Spotify, Apple Music and on his webpage: Kurtis Adair.

This year’s event will feature a delicious brunch and live music on the lawn of the iconic Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale. Originally built in 1959 and completely rebuilt in 2017, this architectural gem is nestled in the foreground of picturesque Camelback Mountain and surrounded by the desert landscape. In addition, guests will enjoy a silent auction, and, most importantly, an opportunity to make valuable contributions to programs serving thousands of aging adults and children every year.

This year’s Giving in the Garden Party would not be possible without the support of our incredible sponsors. We would like to extend our gratitude to friends at Arizona Complete Health, Cigna Health, Eli Lilly and Company, AARP Arizona, Affiliated Health Partners, Aqua Therapy Tubs, and SRP for their generosity and belief in Duet’s vital mission.
Sponsorships are still available for the Giving in the Garden Party at Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale. If your business or organization feels inspired to be involved in our largest fundraising event of the year, please contact our development team.
