Help A Homebound Adult “Neighbor”

Thanks to hundreds of volunteers across the Valley, Duet is able to bring help and hope to homebound adults facing challenges related to aging or other health issues. It takes as little as a couple hours a month to make a true difference in the life of a homebound adult, affectionately referred to as “neighbor.”

We match volunteers with neighbors within close proximity of each other.

It’s so easy to find someone you can help!

Our interactive Services Map shows our waiting list of homebound adults who need caring volunteers – just like you. Each symbol represents an actual person who is waiting to get groceries, friendly visiting, or assistance with paperwork, or computer training.

You must be a registered volunteer with us to be matched with someone and all volunteers must be able to secure an Arizona Level 1 fingerprint clearance. Instructions for securing one will be provided at orientation or you may request them in advance.

Orientations are held at the Duet office in our very large Mariposa Room. RSVP is required and attendance is capped to allow for safe social distancing with masks required. The room will be prepared with disinfectant and a special air filter will be running. To attend see the calendar listing below. If you prefer to complete your paperwork without attending please email us at volunteer@duetaz.org.

Normally Our highest demand for volunteer services is to provide grocery shopping assistance and transportation to medical appointments.
(Note: transportation to medical appointments is not represented on the interactive map)

HOW TO GET STARTED

We invite you join us and make a difference in someone else’s life. It’s easy to begin.

Become a Duet Volunteer

To get started volunteering with Duet, RSVP for an orientation or email volunteer@duetaz.org.

Services are provided ONLY in Phoenix, Glendale, Peoria, Paradise Valley, Fountain Hills and Scottsdale (South of Bell). People who ask for help are usually located in the Central to Southern parts of those cities.

Thank you for wanting to help your neighbor!

Requirements

To become a Duet volunteer, you must be able to qualify for a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance. If you are under 18, you may volunteer but you must be under the supervision of an adult with a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance. The total cost for a fingerprint card and printing is 73 dollars and is done through DPS and Gemalto/Thales. After six months of active volunteering, Duet will refund the cost of the card to you at your request. Information and instructions will be provided via email.

If you already have a Level 1 clearance card we will need a copy.

Many of our volunteers work full-time jobs – so most services are flexible enough to be done in the evening or on weekends, around a volunteer’s schedule.

Office

Duet can always use help with general office tasks, such as answering phone calls, mailing letters, and more.

Outreach

Help inspire the community to volunteer, donate, and ask for help. Duet utilizes volunteer outreach ambassadors and liaisons to contact and engage organizations, congregations, individuals and other entities for support and partnerships.

Special Events

If you like to have fun and help others at the same time, volunteering at a Duet event is the place for you. Events include Discover Duet, Arizona Gives Day, Poinsettia Tea and more. We also need volunteers for service events for grandfamilies and family caregivers.
