Arizona law (ARS 43-1088) provides a dollar-for-dollar tax credit for contributions to charities that provide assistance to low-income individuals in Arizona.
A married couple filing jointly may receive a maximum tax credit of $800. If you are single, or an unmarried head of household, or married filing separately, you may receive a maximum tax credit amount of $400.
It is not necessary to itemize deductions on your AZ tax return (effective with 2013 tax year).
This tax credit may be claimed in addition to other AZ tax credits, such as those for public schools or school tuition organizations.
Your gift will stretch far! A $500 gift allows one homebound person to receive assistance for an entire year. That same gift would pay for only two days of nursing home care.
For other qualifications and more information consult your tax advisor, call the Arizona Department of Revenue at (602) 255-3381.
