Officers

Linda Coughenour, President

Linda Coughenour is the Director of Consumer Affairs and SRP’s Hearing Officer for unresolved customer disputes. She has held this position for 27 years of her 34 year tenure at SRP. Linda holds an MBA from Arizona State University, majoring in Management and Conflict Resolution and a B. S. degree in Business Administration and Consumer Affairs from Buffalo State College in New York. She is an active member of the United States Ombudsman Association (USOA), the Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR), the International Ombudsman Association (IOA), and the Arizona Dispute Resolution Association (ADRA). Linda has served on various Community Board of Directors , is a graduate of Scottsdale Leadership and also a Deacon at Pinnacle Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale.

Sandi Terry, Past President

Sandi Terry,  Retired. She is the former Senior Manager of Financial Operations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona. She has a B.S. from Arizona State University and has lived in Arizona for more than 40 years. Sandi has served Duet in various volunteer roles since 2003. She also serves as a Board Member of the Arizona Quality Alliance.

Mary Lou Bessette, Secretary

Mary Lou Bessette retired after three careers: senior news and general management executive in metropolitan media markets, including the Arizona Republic; small business owner; and, most recently, entrepreneurial education at ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business. Her civic leadership involves chairing boards of directors that include the Arizona and Tempe chambers of commerce, the Economic Club of Phoenix, the Phoenix chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners and Arizona Women’s Education and Employment. She was board president of the ATHENA International Foundation which fosters women’s leadership worldwide. She led Arizona’s delegation to the last White House Conference on Small Business and now occasionally coaches aspiring entrepreneurs.

Matthew Klandrud, Treasurer

Matthew Klandrud has over 9 years of experience in the financial services industry. He began his career preparing taxes for businesses and individuals and sat on the investment committee with a startup financial firm in the valley. During 2007 he joined Thrivent Financial where he is a Lead Financial Consultant, focusing on retirement income distribution, wealth transfer, asset and family protection. He is currently involved with multiple nonprofit organizations ranging from Duet, to Gethsemane School, and Habitat for Humanity.

Ellen Dean

Ellen has a comprehensive practice that offers general financial planning and insurance services. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and a Registered Investment Advisor Representative. She offers professionally managed investment alternatives primarily using an asset allocation and financial planning methodology. She has been affiliated with Raymond James Financial Services (RJFS) since 2001. Prior to her career in Financial Services, Ellen spent 20 years as an executive in the healthcare field. This experience has proven to be invaluable as she helps her clients navigate decisions for life, health, disability, and long term care insurance. Her educational background includes a Masters of Health Administration and a Bachelor of Science from the Arizona State University College of Business. She has an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, New York.

Carol Heimann

Carol Heimann currently is a faith community nurse. She has been an active participant in Duet’s faith community nursing activities for the last seven years. She attended Duet’s Basic Preparation Course, served as a Duet Outreach Liaison and participated in monthly peer support meetings. Also, Carol is a long-time volunteer for Planned Parenthood of Arizona, P.E.O. and The Alliance of the American Dental Association.

Stacey Johnson

Stacey Johnson serves as an attorney at Fennemore Craig. She focuses her practice on assisting persons responsible for managing another’s personal or financial matters, including family members, licensed fiduciaries, corporate trustees or those nominated in estate planning documents. She represents individuals or businesses responsible for estate and trust administration as well as guardianships, and conservatorships for adults, personal injury settlements for minors and adult adoptions. Her practice also includes litigation in all areas of estate and probate law. She serves as Arizona Chapter President of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and participates on the Maricopa Elder Abuse Prevention Alliance.

John Kearns

John Kearns is the President of Ringler Associates. He has been actively involved with the Church of the Beatitudes for over 15 years. John and his wife Sharon enjoy promoting Duet at every opportunity.

JoEllen Lynn

JoEllen started her career at the Arizona Republic as a writer and layout artist. In 1982, she moved to First Interstate and served in the Employee Communications department as an editor and years later became an Assistant Vice President heading the bank’s Southwest Communications Division (a 10-state region). In 1994, the bank merged with Wells Fargo and she was named head of the Community Relations and Special Communications Departments for the Arizona and Nevada Markets managing a budget exceeding $10 million dollars. In 1997, JoEllen joined American Express and managed the company’s Community Relations Department. During her time at American Express, JoEllen won four consecutive innovation awards. In March 2009, JoEllen joined Fry’s Food Stores. In her current role, she oversees Associate Communications, Media Relations, KTV, Community Relations, Government Affairs and Consumer Services. Currently, she serves on the following nonprofit boards: Duet and Valle del Sol, Inc.

Jack Marks

Jack has over 25 years of fund raising and nonprofit management experience. He moved to Arizona in 1983 to direct Arizona State University’s first capital campaign with a goal of $100 million. He also directed the fund effort to construct the Herberger Theater Center and he has also directed the fund raising programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix and St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance, along with advancement work at Childhelp. He is also a member of Kiwanis, A Ludwig Dance Company Board, and past chair and board member of the Beatitudes Campus. In 2010, Jack was named Trustee of the Year by the Aging Services of Arizona Association.

Norman Miller

Norm is a senior investment counselor for Versant Capital Management, Inc., and has been involved in the financial services industry for more than 12 years. He specializes in investment management and financial planning services. Prior to becoming involved in the financial services industry, Norm had an extensive career working in the engineering field. Norm is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™and holds the CFP® certification in the US as well as in Canada, and is a Registered Financial Gerontologist. Norm is active in the community and serves as a member of The Professional Advisory Committee of Duet as well as on the Planned Giving Advisory Council of St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance. Norm is a native Californian and has made Arizona his home for the last 14 years.

Nathaniel Nickele

Nat Nickele is a general practice attorney working in the areas of estate planning, real estate and debt negotiation. Nat moved to Arizona in 1981, received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Grand Canyon University and his Juris Doctorate from Phoenix School of Law. As an “almost native” Arizonan, he has been active in various community outreach, disabilities advocacy, and volunteer programs in the Valley for over 20 years. Serving on the Duet Board since 2011, Nat has the distinction of being the youngest board member.

Patricia Park

Patty has over 24 years of experience in the financial services industry. She is Vice President of The Northern Trust Company. She currently provides comprehensive and issue-oriented planning services to high net worth individuals covering a wide range of topics. Before joining Northern Trust, Patty was Director of Financial Planning at Keats, Connelly & Associates. She has also been an instructor in the Certified Financial Planner™ program at the University of Phoenix.

Bob Roth

With over 32 years of consumer products, health care and technology experience, Bob Roth is considered an innovator in enhancing communication and effectively supporting customers and clients. In 1994, Bob assisted his family in creating Cypress HomeCare Solutions. As a leading home care business in Phoenix, Cypress is dedicated to providing the highest quality in compassionate home care services to families with loved ones that are chronically ill, disabled or aging. Bob is currently Managing Partner for Cypress HomeCare Solutions, a position he has held since December 2003. Bob and his wife Susie have three daughters. Bob is a graduate of Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, and a minor in Marketing. Bob played collegiate lacrosse for Ithaca College.

George Spedding

George is Vice President of Claims for Scottsdale Insurance, the Excess & Surplus/Specialty insurance company of Nationwide Insurance, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. George has a broad property and casualty claims background with over 35 years in the insurance industry, and has responsibility for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the Scottsdale claims organization. Prior to joining Nationwide, George spent 20 years in key claims positions with Liberty Mutual Insurance, Alexsis Risk Management, Chubb and Son, Inc. and CGU Insurance.

Bill Tabinsky

After a thirty-five year career in the insurance business, Bill retired as a Regional President with OneBeacon Insurance responsible for insurance operations in twenty-eight states. Prior to joining OneBeacon, he spent thirty-two years with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies retiring as a Managing Director/Senior Vice-President responsible for creating and running the Marsh Brokerage Unit, a nationwide branch office network dedicated to handling all of the business for Chubb’s largest customer. Since retirement, Bill now spends his time traveling the world with his wife of forty-four years Kathy, out of their base in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Karen Vanaskie

Karen Vanaskie currently serves as Care Management Program Director for Scottsdale Health Partners. Her extensive experience in health care includes acute care settings, home health, multi-specialty medical groups, independent physician associations, and managed care organizations. Her vast healthcare experience spans over 30 years. Karen has spent her nursing leadership career developing multiple case management programs, serving as chief nursing officer, and building clinically integrated care programs for ACO’s. Karen’s formal education includes earning a Baccalaureate Degree in the Science of Nursing (B.S.N.), a Master’s Degree in the Science of Nursing (M.S.N.), and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice (D.N.P).
